“Ring…Ring…” The alarm clock rang. Tom was still sleeping in his cozy warm bed. He ignored the alarm clock and continued sleeping. Suddenly, his mother flung open the door and shouted, “Tom! Wake up! It’s already 7 am! You will be late for school.” Tom gazed at the alarm clock. It was 7 am! His eyes widened and he woke up instantly. He quickly dressed himself while his mother packed his school bag. After putting on his shoes, he grabbed his school bag and bolted towards the bus stop like a streak of lightning.
Just as he reached the bus-stop, he saw his school bus as it rumbled away. “Hey! Wait for me!” Tom shouted frantically as he bolted towards the bus. However, the bus gained on speed as it sped away, not leaving any shadow in sight. Muttering his ill-fortune, he ran towards the direction of the school as fast as his legs could carry him.
When he reached the school gate, he was already panting like a mad dog with its tongue rolling out. Beads of perspiration dripped from his forehead. When he stepped gingerly into the classroom, the rest of the class was staring at him. He form teacher, Mrs Lim, saw him. Steam was practically billowing out from her ears as she turned purple with rage. She stormed towards him and shouted, “Do you know how late you are? How dare you!” Tom hung his head low, hot with shame, as all eyes were on him. One of his friends teased him, “Look! His face is as red as a fire engine!” The class burst into giggles.
Catching his breath, he apologised to Mrs lim profusely. He regretted staying up late to watch a soccer match. He decided to turn over a new leaf. He promised her not to be late again. Once bitten, twice shy.

"Hm!" I sighed to myself as I was standing outside the classroom door. This is not going to be a wonderful day... I woke up late for school, stepped on a thumbtack when I was getting out of bed
and slipped on a piece of soap. Still, that was not all. I missed the school bus andwas reprimanded severly by my teacher. And it all happened because I slept late the night before...
"Jared! It is 7am! Get out of bed at once!" screamed my mother. "Five more minutes," I replied. My mother stormed towards my bed and pinched me by the ear. "Ouch!" I shrieked. I jumped out of bed dreamily. My mouth stank. I rushed to the bathroom and brushed my teeth. From the corner of my eye, I saw the time-7.30am. I gasped and ran out of the bathroon. Unfortunately, I stepped on a piece of soap.
I slipped and fell on the wet floor, landing heavily on my backside.
I climbed up and rushed to the living room, gobbled up my breakfast and changed out of my clothes and !" I panicked. Thinking about my bag reminds me of my homework. I have not done it. I sobbed, regretting about procrastinating to do my homework. There was no time to think of that. I had to hurry. I slipped on my socks and shoes and ran out of the door. I pressed the lift button repeatedly, even though I knew it was useless. So, I climbed the stairs instead. I reached the void deck just in time to see the school bus driving down the street.
I ran after it, shouting," Stop! Stop!" But it was in vain. I panted heavily, determined to let one of my classmates see me. As I ran after the bus, I tripped over a stone and fell flat to the ground with a loud thud. I wanted to bawl like a baby but there as hardly any time to do that. I ran at top speed, sprinting towards the direction of my school.
Finally, what seemed like a few years, I reached the school gates. I saw prefects rushing towards me, holding a detention book. "Why are you late? Which class are you from? What is your name?" The
prefects said it all at once. I slowly filled then in on the details and walked up the stairs leading to the school hall. When I reached it, it was empty and deserted. I stamped my foot on the brown tiles.
"Aargh!!" I choked. " I am really in big trouble now!" I walked slowly up the stairs, thinking about how my classmates would laugh at me and how my teacher would reprimand me. The moment I stepped into the classroom, I heard peals of laughter echoing around the classroom. My teacher looked angry. I swear I saw steams blowing out of her ears.
"Jared Xu! Get out! How dare you be late!" she screamed at the top of her lungs. I shuffled out of the door quietly. And that was why I ended up outside my classroom. Can the afternoon turn out any worse than this? I pinched myself on the cheeks and swore that I will never be late ever again.
